Türkiye’s gas imports down 11.3% in February 2024

​​​​​​​Türkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 11.3% in February 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from Türkiye’s energy watchdog on Tuesday.

Natural gas imports in February decreased to around 5.33 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 6.01 bcm in the same month of 2023, Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.

Russia was the largest natural gas supplier to Türkiye, providing 2.65 bcm, while Azerbaijan and Iran followed with 775 million cubic meters (mcm) and 241 mcm, respectively.

The US was the biggest LNG exporter to Türkiye with 813 mcm.

The country’s total gas consumption rose by 4.45% to approximately 6.37 bcm compared to the same month in 2023.

Household consumption increased by 20.9% to 3.60 bcm, while gas consumption in power plants decreased by 55.1% to 520 bcm during the same period.

The natural gas storage volume in February 2024 expanded by 11.5% to around 5.36 bcm, compared to 4.80 bcm in February 2023.
