The Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new head coach on an 18-month contract.

“We are delighted to welcome Vitor Pereira to Wolves as the new head coach of our men’s first-team,” Chairman Jeff Shi said in a Thursday statement.

“Vitor is a highly respected and experienced coach who has achieved success across different leagues and will bring a new approach for the test ahead,” he added.

Pereira, a two-time Portuguese champion with Porto (2012, 2013) and 2015 Greek Super League and Cup winner with Olympiakos, has managed clubs like Istanbul’s Fenerbahce, Shanghai Port, El-Ahli, and Corinthians.

The 56-year-old replaced Gary O’Neil after Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Ipswich, with the Premier League team sitting in 19th place – one from the bottom – with nine points.
