Türkiye’s wind energy sector has transformed into a huge industry, generating $2 billion in income and $1.5 billion in exports, the head of the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TUREB), Ibrahim Erden, said on Wednesday.
His remarks came on the second day of the 12th Turkish Wind Energy Congress (TUREK 2023) in Istanbul, where Anadolu is a global communication partner.
According to Erden, the Turkish wind industry’s success was made possible by sound and focused planning, the switch to renewable energy, and guaranteed purchases and incentives.
Through these accomplishments, Türkiye’s wind sector is now the sixth largest in Europe and ranks 12th globally in terms of installed capacity.
Europe also wants to increase the percentage of wind energy for power generation. The continent has 230 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind power capacity but aims to reach 550 GW through the latest regulations that aim to enhance the European Union’s wind industry.
Erden explained that this would require around €30–35 billion in investments to have an annual installation of 30 GW.

Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope, said the European Union (EU) is determined to have a level playing field in Europe’s wind sector in the face of stiff competition from China.
He said during his address that Türkiye can help the EU achieve its goal of having all new wind farms in Europe equipped with ‘made in Europe’ technology and equipment.
He explained that the goal of the European wind energy action plan is to enable the EU to have the capability to manufacture wind turbines with an annual capacity of 36 gigawatts.
‘Everybody in Brussels and elsewhere in Europe is very clear that the Turkish wind supply chain is part of the European wind energy supply chain,” Dickson said.
