Türkiye’s Sakarya Gas Field daily output rises to 8.8 mcm

Daily natural gas production from the Sakarya Gas Field in Türkiye’s Black Sea region has reached 8.8 million cubic meters (mcm), said Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar on Friday.

Daily production is expected to rise to 9.5 mcm by the end of April, when the completion of the first phase of development at the Sakarya field, Bayraktar said during his remarks at a conference by the Istanbul International Center for Energy and Climate (IICEC).

With the current production level, “Türkiye is now meeting the natural gas needs of 3.8 million households from domestic resources,” he added.

“Next year, we will double this output,” Bayraktar added. “Türkiye will produce 7.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, which is nearly 50 times the total amount of gas we have produced throughout Turkish history.”

The largest natural gas discovery in Turkish history was made in the Sakarya Gas Field by the Fatih drilling ship in 2020.
