Türkiye receives $280 billion worth of applications for solar, wind storage projects

Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) has received 5,968 pre-license applications for wind and solar power plant and storage projects worth $280 billion, EMRA head Mustafa Yilmaz confirmed during the 12th Turkish Wind Energy Congress in Istanbul, where Anadolu is a global communication partner.

The pre-license applications for wind and solar with storage exceeded 260,000 megawatts of installed capacity for the 2023–2028 period, Yilmaz said.

Among the applications, 1,883 were for wind power plants with a capacity of 126,729 megawatts.

EMRA has granted pre-licenses to 428 applicants for approximately 33,000 megawatts of capacity, out of which 176 applications for a total capacity of 12,000 megawatts are for wind power plants.

The remaining 252 applications, with a capacity of 11,000 megawatts, are for solar power plants.

As these pre-licenses turn into projects, investments of approximately $35 billion will be made in the wind and solar sectors, Yilmaz said.

Türkiye: Europe’s fifth-largest wind equipment manufacturer

The chairman of the Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information, and Technology Commission, Mustafa Varank, shared how far the country has come in terms of developing renewable energy and its goal to establish the country’s own wind turbine brand.

According to Varank, Türkiye has grown into a dependable producer of renewable energy equipment and is currently ranked fifth in Europe for wind equipment production.

Türkiye’s wind turbine and equipment exports ‘are close to €2 billion, in the sector that employs approximately 40,000, Varank said.

He confirmed that under the green industry project initiated by the World Bank, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye and the country’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration, financing of $450 million will be offered to small and medium-sized enterprises, exporters and industrialists.
