Türkiye nabs Daesh/ISIS terrorist trying to cross Syria border illegally

ANKARA

Türkiye has nabbed a Daesh/ISIS terrorist, who was wanted on an Interpol red notice, while trying to enter the country from Syria illegally, the National Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The Turkish Armed Forces, in a joint operation with the gendarmerie, carried out a “successful” operation near the southern Hatay province bordering Syria to capture the terrorist only known by the initial M. M., the ministry said in a statement.

“The person in question was successfully caught trying to infiltrate our country,” it added.

In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terrorist organization.

The country has since been attacked by the terror group multiple times, with over 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults.
