Türkiye, Gabon sign energy and mining deals

Türkiye and Gabon signed three cooperation agreements covering energy, hydrocarbons, and mining during Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s official visit to Ankara, the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry announced on Thursday.

Turkish Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Gabon’s Minister of Water and Access to Energy, Philippe Tonangoye, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.

The agreement aims to promote joint projects in renewable energy and support knowledge sharing in electricity transmission and distribution, it added.

Bayraktar also signed a separate MoU on hydrocarbons cooperation with Gabon’s Oil and Gas Minister, Sosthene Nguema Nguema.

This deal focuses on evaluating investment opportunities, boosting trade, and supporting oil and natural gas exploration and production efforts.

Lastly, Bayraktar and Gabon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michel Regis Onanga M. Ndiaye, who is responsible for regional integration and Gabonese abroad, signed a mining cooperation MoU calling for joint efforts in the exploration and development of mineral resources.

“These agreements will help us seize new opportunities and develop joint projects across a wide range of areas, from oil and gas exploration and production to renewable energy, electricity networks, and mining,” Bayraktar said on X.

The deals were signed at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, following meetings between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Gabonese counterpart.

The agreements underscore Türkiye’s expanding engagement with African nations in the energy and mining sectors as part of its broader global economic strategy.
