Türkiye, Azerbaijan agree on 33 bcm gas deal starting in 2029

Türkiye and Azerbaijan agreed to sign a new natural gas supply agreement totaling 33 billion cubic meters (bcm), with deliveries set to begin in 2029 and run for 15 years, the country’s energy and natural resources minister announced on Sunday.

Alparslan Bayraktar said the deal will provide Türkiye with 2.25 bcm per year from the Absheron field over the contract period, according to a statement from the ministry.

“The signatures will be finalized very soon. We concluded the final negotiations on Friday,” Bayraktar said during a television interview.

He said the gas would be supplied for 15 years, extending into the 2040s, and would be delivered via pipeline from Azerbaijan across the Caspian Sea.

“We have again found gas at a favorable price and have begun to bring it to our country on a long-term basis,” he said.
