Turkish parliament speaker condemns Israeli targeting of Hezbollah leader

ISTANBUL

Turkish parliament speaker Numan Kurtulmus condemned on Saturday the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah, who was targeted in an Israeli air attack the previous day.

“The assassination of Lebanese religious leader and Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hasan Nasrallah, by Israel is a grave consequence of the long-standing policies of occupation, destruction, and annexation against not only the Palestinian people but all the peoples of the region,” Kurtulmus said in a post on X.

Kurtulmus said those who continue to support Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while overlooking the fact that such assassinations ignore international law, will ultimately be held accountable.

“The fact that the genocidal Netanyahu issued the orders for this attack in the UN General Assembly is a painful indicator of the collapse of the international security system,” he said.

The speaker said Israel’s actions threaten future of all people in the region, adding that the legitimate Palestinian resistance will continue until their struggle for an independent state is realized.

Kurtulmus honored the memory of “all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Palestinian cause,” and offered his “condolences to the people of Lebanon and all supporters of Palestine.”
