Turkish aid agency launches mushroom project in northeastern Syria

AZAZ, Syria

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), a state-run aid agency, has launched a mushroom production project in northeastern Syria.

As food security becomes a paramount concern worldwide, this initiative in Azaz district aims to contribute to securing the food supply in the region, TIKA said in a statement on Wednesday.

The project, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Kilis Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and the Azaz Local Council, aims to highlight the nutritional and commercial value of mushrooms in order to improve the living conditions of the local population, it added.

The statement said the project’s significance extends beyond food security as it also contributes to the economic and social development of rural areas in Azaz, stressing that the initiative aims to provide farmers with a new income source, revitalize the local economy, and increase employment.
