ANKARA, TURKEY
Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,892.02 points on Tuesday, ending with losses for the third consecutive trading day.
Starting the day at 2,103.56 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index dropped by 164.34 points, or 7.99%, from Monday’s closing of 2,056.36 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,884.66 points, while its daily high was 2,103.56 points.
The total market value of BIST 100 was approximately 1.52 trillion Turkish liras ($86.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 37.5 billion liras ($2.87 billion).
Eight stocks on the index rose during the day, 91 fell, and one remained unchanged compared to Monday’s close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, glassmaker Sise Cam, and another private lender Akbank.
Shares of insurance company Turkiye Sigorta performed the best with a 4.03% increase, while stocks of at least five companies plummeted by 10% each.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,793 by the day’s end, down from $1,801.55 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was up 2.15% to $73.06 per barrel as of 6.22 p.m. local time (1522GMT).
