Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 2,056.36 points on Monday, ending with losses for the second consecutive trading day.
Starting the day at 2,007.04 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 28.11 points, or 1.35%, from Friday’s closing of 2,084.47 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,914.02 points, while its daily high was 2,149.40 points.
The total market value of BIST 100 was approximately 1.65 trillion Turkish liras ($101.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 45.2 billion liras ($2.6 billion).
While 24 of the stocks on the index rose during the day, 75 of them fell, and one remained unchanged compared to Friday’s close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by glassmaker Sise Cam, private lender Garanti BBVA, and iron and steel producer Eregli.
Shares of telecommunication firm Turk Telekom performed the best with a 9.98% rise, while stocks of carmaker Tofas and supermarket chain Sok Marketler plummeted 9.99% each.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,801.55 by the day’s end, down from $1,810.15 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was down 5.2% to $69.68 per barrel as of 6.49 p.m. local time (1549GMT).
