TPAO, TotalEnergies sign strategic MoU to advance energy cooperation

Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and TotalEnergies signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Energy and Natural Resources Minister announced on Monday.

“In line with our goal of becoming a central country in energy, a strategic MoU has been signed in Istanbul between our national company TPAO and TotalEnergies,” Alparslan Bayraktar said in a post on Turkish social media platform NSosyal.

He said the agreement would see the two companies evaluate potential cooperation in hydrocarbon exploration in Türkiye and abroad.

“As we pursue our goal of making TPAO a global energy player, we will continue to strengthen our country’s journey toward full energy independence by combining our advanced technical capabilities with international experience,” Bayraktar said.

TotalEnergies said in a separate statement that the MoU sets out a framework for technical collaboration, including a joint assessment of exploration opportunities in Türkiye’s Black Sea region and internationally.

“We are pleased to launch this cooperation with TPAO, leveraging the technical expertise of both companies to evaluate exploration opportunities in the Black Sea region and internationally on a mutually beneficial basis,” said Nicola Mavilla, senior vice-president exploration at TotalEnergies.
