ISTANBUL
Panathinaikos confirmed on Tuesday the signing of Turkish coach Ergin Ataman for a two-year deal.
On Twitter, the Greek basketball club posted a video compilation of highlights of his previous stint in EuroLeague competition.
Ataman, who had been serving as head coach since 2017, left Anadolu Efes after the Istanbul team won the Türkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Lig title.
Under the helm of Ataman, Efes claimed a 3-0 victory over Pinar Karsiyaka in the finals last week to win their record-extending 16th Turkish top-tier basketball title.
Besides six Turkish League titles, Ataman won Turkish Airlines EuroLeague titles with Anadolu Efes in 2021 and 2022, making him the first Turkish coach to grab the trophy.
The 57-year-old tactician also won the 2021 EuroLeague Coach of the Year.
