MOSCOW
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Thursday that a senior Russian negotiator responsible for foreign investments is currently on a visit to the US.
Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow, Peskov said Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special envoy for foreign investment and economic cooperation, is visiting Washington at the instruction of President Vladimir Putin.
“No, I can’t disclose any details,” he said in response to a question for further details, adding, “He’s there on the president’s orders, acting within his mandate. He (Dmitriev) will provide information once the contacts are completed.”
According to Peskov, the Russian market is appealing to foreign businesses because of its extensive potential for cooperation.
Contacts between Russia and the United States have been in progress since February to end the Ukraine conflict and normalize relations.
Dmitriev arrived in the US on the same day that President Donald Trump announced tariffs on traditional American trade and economic partners.
