ANKARA
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias arrived in Türkiye’s quake-hit southern Adana province on Sunday for solidarity in wake of powerful tremors earlier this week, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
Dendias’ private jet landed at Adana’s Sakirpasa Airport and he was welcomed by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
The two top diplomates held discussions at the airport behind closed doors.
Dendias and Cavusoglu will head to Hatay, one of the quake-hit provinces in southern Türkiye.
The Greek foreign minister is the second foreign dignitary to visit the disaster zone.
The 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes, centered in Kahramanmaras, affected more than 13 million people across 10 provinces, including Hatay, Gaziantep, Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, felt the strong tremors that struck Türkiye in the space of less than 10 hours.
In neighboring Syria, the death toll has climbed above 3,500 with more than 5,200 people wounded.
