Some 2.29 million road motor vehicles were registered in Türkiye last year, up 80.3% on an annual basis, the country’s statistical authority reported on Tuesday.
The total number of registered road motor vehicles reached 28.74 million as of the end of 2023, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said.
Cars represented 53% of the total number of vehicles, while motorcycles 17.7%, small trucks 15.6%, tractors 7.6%, minibuses 1.8%, buses 0.7%, and special purposes vehicles 0.3%.
Among 945,768 cars registered in the January-December period, 66.1% run on gasoline, followed by diesel at 16.3%, hybrid at 9.3%, electric with 6.9% and LPG at 1.4%.
The number of electric cars registered during the last year increased by 690% versus 2022 – from 8,312 units to 65,558.
In December alone, 199,259 units of motor vehicles were registered.
