Türkiye’s energy import bill jumps 43.4% in May

Türkiye’s energy import bill rose 43.4% year-on-year to $6.11 billion in May, accounting for nearly one-quarter of the country’s total imports, according to official data released on Tuesday.

Figures published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and the Trade Ministry showed that the country’s energy import bill increased from $4.26 billion in May 2025 to $6.11 billion this May.

Türkiye’s total imports amounted to $28.07 billion in May, with energy accounting for 21.8% of the overall import bill.

The data also showed that crude oil imports increased 1.7% year-on-year to 2.67 million tons in May, up from 2.62 million tons in the same month last year.
