Libraries in Türkiye rounded up to 48,700 in 2023, TurkStat data showed on Friday.
The data highlighted that there were one Nation’s Library, one national library, 1,200 public libraries, 627 university libraries, and 46,800 formal and non-formal education institution libraries in 2023.
It noted that there were 118.8 million books recorded in total across all library types, with the biggest increase in the number of books at the libraries of formal and non-formal education institutes, which was up 56.9% in 2023.
It added that public library usage soared 25.3%, while the number of library members reached 6.2 million, up 11.2% on an annual basis.
The data said that the number of electronic books in university libraries climbed 23.4% year-on-year, reaching 118.3 million.
The number of books published in Türkiye reached 99,000 in 2023, up 18.4%, most of which were academic works.
