ISTANBUL
Türkiye will play against Wales in a Group D match of the EURO 2024 qualifiers on Monday.
The fourth-week clash will kick off at 1845GMT at May 19 Stadium in Samsun, northern Türkiye. Fabio Maresca from Italy will referee the match.
In a news conference at the Samsun stadium on Sunday, Türkiye manager Stefan Kuntz heaped praise on Turkish wonderkid Arda Guler for his performance in the Latvia match last week.
About the Wales game, he said: “Since the opponent in front of us is different, we will reflect a different understanding on the field tactically.”
Group leaders Türkiye have collected six points from Armenia and Latvia and suffered a defeat against Croatia so far.
Third-place Wales beat Latvia, drew with Croatia, and lost to Armenia to amass four points.
Wales manager Rob Page, who also addressed reporters in a news conference at the Samsun stadium on Sunday, said since the World Cup in Qatar there have been some senior players who have left big characters in the changing room and they introduced a lot of young players, not just in the squad but in the team.
“We are going to have moments like we had the other night, it’s about how we manage those defeats and give a performance (over Türkiye), I firmly believe that,” Page added.
Turkish national team tasted 238 wins, including a win by forfeit, and suffered 232 defeats in 615 international games.
Under the helm of Kuntz, Türkiye have scored 11 wins and four losses in 18 matches so far.
Meanwhile, Türkiye secured a 3-2 away win over 10-man Latvia while Wales got a surprising 4-2 home defeat against Armenia last week.
Türkiye are atop the standings with six points, followed by Croatia and Wales with four points each.
