US stocks open higher Wednesday, partially regain previous losses

ISTANBUL

US stocks opened higher on Wednesday, partially regaining losses of the previous day’s session.

The S&P 500 rose 17 points, or 0.45%, to 3,846 at 9.36 a.m. EDT (1436GMT) after it fell 15 points on Tuesday.

The Nasdaq was up 47 points, or 0.47%, to 10,401 at the time. The tech-heavy index lost 144 points on previous session.

The Dow Jones, however, added another 103 points, or 0.31%, to reach 33,344 shortly after opening bell, after the blue-chip index rose 37 points on Tuesday.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, increased 0.74% to 21.81. The 10-year US Treasury yield decreased 0.84% to 3.837%.

The dollar index fell 0.15% to 104.03, while the euro added 0.18% to $1.0657 against the greenback.

Precious metals were down, with the price of gold falling 0.45% to $1,805 per ounce and silver retreating 0.86% to $23.84 an ounce.

Crude oil prices were in negative territory. Global benchmark Brent crude was down 0.28% to $84.44 per barrel. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was around $79.09 – down 0.55%.
