French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe announced on Thursday that the firm inaugurated the world’s first offshore pilot plant for the production of green hydrogen off the coast of western France.
According to the announcement, the platform is entering an 18-month test phase, which initial reference data will be collected and the equipment will be tested.
The electricity coming from the floating wind turbine will provide the pilot project and up to 400 kg of renewable hydrogen per day will be produced.
‘Lhyfe will have a substantial volume of data, which should allow it to design mature offshore production systems, and to deploy robust and proven technologies on a large scale, in keeping with the EU’s objective to produce 10 million tonnes a year of renewable hydrogen by 2030,’ the statement read.
