Ons Jabeur advanced against Tamara Zidansek in a 3-set first-round match Tuesday at the Australian Open.

The world no. 2 from Tunisia prevailed 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-1 against her Slovenian opponent at Rod Laver Arena.

“It was a very tough match,” said Jabeur. “I wasn’t playing very well and she was putting a lot of pressure on me. I know she is a player who doesn’t give up, brings every ball in.”

Jabeur, who made it to the finals of a Grand Slam twice, had to withdraw from the 2022 Australian Open with a back injury.

The 28-year-old reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in 2020.
