The 28th annual World Investment Conference (WIC) officially began on Monday in Riyadh under the patronage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
Organized by the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) and Invest Saudi, the conference will continue until November 27 and spotlight digital transformation, sustainable growth, and expanding investment opportunities.
Held under the theme ‘Harnessing Digital Transformation and Sustainable Growth: Scaling Investment Opportunities,’ this year’s conference brings together ministers, investment agencies, business leaders, and representatives from international organizations from over 100 countries.
Speaking at the opening session, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Investment, Khalid Al-Falih, highlighted the Kingdom’s achievements under Vision 2030, emphasizing its emergence as a premier global investment destination, supported by sweeping reforms such as 100% foreign ownership in key sectors and streamlined business processes.
‘This conference is an invaluable platform to share Saudi Arabia’s vision and forge partnerships that promote sustainable global economic growth,’ Al-Falih said.
He noted that the Kingdom has tripled FDI inflows compared to six years ago, establishing itself as a leading global investment hub. He also described the Kingdom’s transformation story as an inspiring example featured in the conference.
Executive Director and CEO of WAIPA, Ismail Ersahin, also addressed attendees, praising Riyadh as the ideal location for this transformative event. ‘Saudi Arabia’s forward-looking approach ensures this conference will shape the future of global investment,’ Ersahin said.
Ersahin emphasized that WIC is not just a place for sharing experiences but also a platform to engage directly with investors.
‘We put the global community of investment together to make sure that we can really create values and tangible outcomes, not only for investors, but also for Investment Promotion Agencies (IPA) and all attendees, that are part of it.’ he added.
Key highlights of WIC 2024 will include a range of conference tracks, such as high-level government dialogues, insightful sessions on technology, sustainability, and economic cooperation, as well as practical masterclasses for investment professionals.
A dedicated entrepreneurship track will emphasize the transformative role of startups and innovators, while exclusive matchmaking sessions will facilitate strategic partnerships between investors, SMEs, and potential collaborators.
Participants will also have the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of IPAs through the Awards Track, honoring innovation and excellence in investment facilitation.
