Will of voters above everything, says Turkish opposition party

ANKARA

The will of voters is above everything, said the Turkish opposition party, who followed every single vote across the country in Sunday’s parliamentary and presidential elections.

“We have a very healthy infrastructure and system. For us, the will of the voters and nation are above everything..,” said Muharrrem Erkek, the deputy chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in a press conference in the capital Ankara.

“Even if it will not change the general results, we are following every single vote,” he said.

Noting that separate minutes are prepared for the presidential and parliamentary elections, he said they detected a difference in the 2,269 ballot box results of presidential elections.

“Of course, it can be in favor or against the four candidates,” he said, adding that all the objections were made as of 5 p.m. on Monday.

Millions of voters went to the polls on Sunday to elect the country’s president and members of its 600-seat parliament.

People’s Alliance led by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a majority in parliament, while the presidential race is headed to a second round on May 28.

In the first round held on May 14, no candidate won an outright majority, although Erdogan was leading.

Erdogan will face Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the main opposition CHP and joint candidate for the six-party opposition Nation Alliance, in the runoff vote.
