VP Mike Pence, His Wife Test Negative For Coronavirus

WASHINGTON D.C.

US Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen have tested negative for coronavirus, Pence’s spokesman said Friday, after President Donald Trump and first lady’s positive diagnosis.

“As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19. Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery,” Devin O’Malley said on Twitter.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin also has tested negative for coronavirus, according to the agency’s spokeswoman Monica Crowley.

“As part of regular protocols, Secretary @stevenmnuchin1 has been tested daily for COVID-19. He tested negative for COVID-19 this morning and will continue to be tested daily,” Crowley said in a Twitter post.

Two announcements came hours after Trump said early Friday that he and first lady Melania had tested positive for COVID-19.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS [US first lady] and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” he tweeted.

Sean P. Conley, the White House physician, said in a statement that the Trumps are “both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”
