Melissa Vargas guided Turkish women’s team to a 3-1 win over Dominican Republic in a Sunday Volleyball Nations League pool match.
Turkish opposite Vargas, 23, scored 29 points – including 26 attack points – to display a stellar performance against Dominican Republic in a Pool 3 Week 2 match in Hong Kong.
Zehra Gunes had 14 points for Türkiye, and her teammate Hande Baladin added 12 points for the victors.
Dominican Republic were led by Gaila Gonzalez, who racked up 17 total points.
Jineiry Martinez scored 16 points, and Yonkaira Pena added 13 points for Dominican Republic.
Türkiye have 19 points and are currently third with six wins in the Nations League Preliminary Phase, which is led by Poland, who have seven wins, and 20 points.
United States are in the second spot with 19 points. They won seven matches.
The Turkish women will travel to Thailand for Week 3 matches that will begin on June 28.
Türkiye will face Japan, Thailand, Brazil, and Croatia between June 28 and July 2 to conclude the Preliminary Phase.
Following the third week in Bangkok, top eight teams in standings will qualify for the final phase, which will be played in Arlington, Texas on July 12-16.
