June 20, 2023 7:28 amUzbekistan signed a deal with Russia to import 9 million cubic meters of gas a day for two years starting Oct. 1, the Uzbekistan energy ministry confirmed in a Telegram message on Monday.
The deal came during the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) between Uzbekistan’s UzGastrade AJ company and Russia’s Gazprom Export.
Around 9 million cubic meters per day of natural gas, equivalent to about 2.8 billion cubic meters annually, will be transported from Oct. 1 for two years via reverse flows through the Central Asia-Center (CAC) gas pipeline.
The CAC pipeline is a Gazprom-operated system that runs from Turkmenistan via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Russia.
The deal aims to meet the growing needs of consumers in Uzbekistan and cover shortages during the winter season.
