US trade deficit rises more than 5% in October

ISTANBUL

The US trade deficit increased more than 5% in October, according to data released Tuesday by the Commerce Department’s Census Bureau.

The goods and services deficit rose 5.4% to $78.2 billion, up $4 billion from $74.1 billion in September, the agency said in a statement.

The figure was expected to come in at $80 billion.

Exports stood at $256.6 billion, $1.9 billion less than in September, but imports were at $334.8 billion — $2.2 billion more than September imports.

“The October increase in the goods and services deficit reflected an increase in the goods deficit of $6.1 billion to $99.6 billion and an increase in the services surplus of $2.1 billion to $21.4 billion,” according to the Commerce Department.​​​​​​​
