US stocks rise over 1% awaiting earnings reports

ANKARA

Major indices on the US stock market rose more than 1% after the opening bell on Tuesday, awaiting key financial results from American companies’ earnings for the third quarter of this year.

The Dow Jones rose 440 points, or 1.46%, to open at 30,626 at 10.28 a.m (1428GMT). The S&P 500 added 55 points, or 1.5%, to 3,733.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq soared 166 points, or 1.56%, to 10,842.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 0.8% to 31.11. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.6% to 3.990%.

The dollar index rose 0.05% to 112.08, still around its highest in 20 years, while the euro fell 0.05% to $0.9831 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold losing 0.1% to $1,649 but silver gaining 0.1% to $18.69.

Oil prices were in negative territory. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $89.11 per barrel, down 2.8%. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was around $81.39, dropping 3.7%.
