US stocks open Wednesday lower

ISTANBUL

US stock opened lower on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones was down 31 points, or 0.07%, to 39,077 at 9.46 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 fell five points, or 0.1%, to 5,174.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, was off 30 points, or 0.2%, to 16,131.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.8% to 14.07. The 10-year US Treasury yield increased 0.12% to 4.289%.

The dollar index increased 0.5% to 103.93, while the euro shed 0.15% to $1.0849 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.4% to $2,163 per ounce and silver increasing 0.4% to $25.02.

Oil prices fell 1.6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.98 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $81.25.
