US stock market opens Monday higher

ISTANBUL

The US stock market opened Monday higher.

The Dow Jones rose 36 points, or 0.1%, to 35,495 at 10:11 am EDT (1411GMT).

The S&P 500 was also up two points, or 0.05%, to 4,584.

The Nasdaq increased 14 points, or 0.1%, to 14,330 at the time.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 4.6% to 13.94.

The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, fell 0.4% to 3.950%.

The dollar index was flat at 101.57, while the euro rose 0.3% to $1.1044 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.5% to $1,969 per ounce and silver increasing 1.6% to $24.73.

Oil prices were down around 0.7%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.95 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.29.
