US stock market opens lower Wednesday

ISTANBUL

US stock market opened lower Wednesday.

The Dow fell 68 points, or 0.2%, to open at 34,091 at 9.37 a.m. EDT (1437GMT). The S&P 500 lost 15 points, or 0.36%, to 4,150.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq decreased 45 points, or 0.4%, to open the day at 12,070.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 0.1% at 18.60, while the 10-year US Treasury yield declined 0.2% to 3.666%.

The dollar index fell 0.1% to 103.36, while the euro rose 0.1% to $1.0730 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold falling 0.1% to $1,872 per ounce but silver rising 0.2% to $22.23.

Crude oil prices were up nearly 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.34 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $78 a barrel.
