US stock market opens higher to start new week strongly

ANKARA

Major indexes in the US stock market opened higher on Monday to kick off the new week strongly.

The blue-chip Dow Jones index was up 130 points, or 0.4%, to 32,534 at 9.42 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 rose 8 points, or 0.23%, to 3,779.

The Nasdaq increased only 10 points, or 0.1%, to 10,485.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 3% to 25.34. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.1% to 4.163%.

The dollar index was down 0.4% to 110.39, still around its highest in 20 years, while the euro gained 0.3% to $0.9993 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold flat at $1,681 but silver adding 0.6% to $20.98.

Oil prices were on the decline, with global oil benchmark Brent crude trading at $98.41 per barrel, down 0.2%. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was around $92.52 – down 0.1%.
