US stock exchanges rack up 5-week winning streak

ISTANBUL

Major stock exchanges in the US closed Friday with losses to end their fifth consecutive week of winning streaks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 145 points, or 0.37%, to finish the day at almost 38,628 as the blue-chip index lost 1.1% for the week.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, plummeted 130 points, or 0.82%, to close the day at 15,775 to record a weekly decline of 1.34%.

The S&P 500 dove 24 points, or 0.48%, to end the session at 5,005 and posted a weekly a decrease of 0.42%.

For the week ending Feb. 10, the S&P 500 closed above the 5,000 record-level for the first time in history. That week, the index posted a weekly gain of 1.4%, while it increased 14 of the past 15 weeks — a feat last seen in 1972.
