US stock exchanges open Wednesday mixed

ISTANBUL

US stock exchanges opened mixed on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones was up eight points, or 0.02%, to 33,150 at 9.43 a.m. EDT.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, fell 34 points, or 0.82%, to 4,213. The Nasdaq dove 179 points, or 1.37%, to 12,960.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 4.1% to 19.75. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.26% to 4.901%.

The dollar index increased 0.18% to 106.46 while the euro lost 0.12% to $1.0575 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold rising 0.43% to $1,979 an ounce but silver trimming 0.5% to $22.80.

Oil prices declined around 0.1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $88.01 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $83.60.
