US stock exchanges open Tuesday lower

ISTANBUL

US stock exchanges opened Tuesday on a lower note.

The Dow Jones was down 82 points, or 0.23%, to 35,064 at 10.05 a.m. EDT (1505GMT). The S&P 500 lost 12 points, or 0.28%, to 4,535.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, decreased 70 points, or 0.5%, to 14,214.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1% to 13.54. The 10-year US Treasury yield dove 0.5% to 4.402%.

The dollar index was down 0.2% to 103.22, while the euro rose 0.1% to $1.0947 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise with gold adding 1.3% to $2,004 an ounce and silver increasing 2.2% to $23.95.

Oil prices lost around 0.7% with global benchmark Brent crude at $81.71 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $77.23.
