US stock exchanges open Tuesday lower

ISTANBUL

Major US stock exchanges opened lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 71 points, or 0.16%, to 41,168 as of 10:01 a.m. EDT (1401GMT).

The S&P 500 lost seven points, or 0.14% to 5,609. The Nasdaq Composite fell 45 points, or 0.26%, to 17,680.

The VIX volatility index, referred to as the “fear index,” climbed 1.3% to 16.36. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.2% to 3.865%.

The US dollar index decreased 0.1% to 100.77, while the euro added 0.04% against the dollar, trading at $1.1166.

Precious metals were in negative territory. Gold fell 0.3% to $2,510 per ounce and silver lost 0.1% to $28.88 per ounce.

Oil prices decreased around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $79.66 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $76.56 per barrel.
