US stock exchanges open Friday mixed

ISTANBUL

US stock exchanges opened mixed on Friday.

The Dow Jones was up 68 points, or 0.19%, to 35,340 at 9.53 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500, however, lost 0.3 point, or 0.1%, to 4,556.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, shed 23 points, or 0.16%, to 14,243.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2% to 13.05. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.56% to 4.475%.

The dollar index decreased 0.27% to 103.47 while the euro rose 0.36% to $1.0943 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.5% to $2,003 an ounce but silver increasing 2.6% to $24.28.

Oil prices were flat, with global benchmark Brent crude at $81.89 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $76.82.
