WASHINGTON
The US Senate confirmed early Friday retired Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine as the country’s top military officer.
President Donald Trump’s pick was confirmed in a 60-25 vote to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
In February, Trump abruptly fired Air Force General C.Q. Brown Jr., saying he picked Caine to replace him.
During his confirmation hearing on April 1, Caine, a retired F-16 pilot, pledged to serve apolitically.
“If confirmed, I’ll continue the traditions and standards of my oath of office and my commission as a nonpartisan leader who will always strive to do the right thing,” Caine told senators.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday congratulated Caine on his confirmation.
“Your leadership will be a welcomed/vital part of ensuring we return the Dept. of Defense back to the American warfighter,” Hegseth said on X.
