US market closes mixed as Dow falls, Nasdaq rises

ISTANBUL

The US stock market closed mixed on Monday, as the Dow Jones fell but the Nasdaq rose in the first trading day of the week.

The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average dove 190 points, or 0.58%, to finish the session at 32,936. The S&P 500 fell seven points, or 0.17%, to 4,217.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq, on the other hand, rose 34 points, or 0.27%, to end the day at 13,018.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, plummeted 6.2% to 20.37. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, fell 1.5% to 4.851%.

The dollar index was down 0.5% to 105.61, while the euro added 0.7% to $1.0669 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold falling 0.4% to $1,973 per ounce and silver falling 1.7% to $22.98.

Oil prices decreased around 2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $90.47 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $86.13.
