US market closes lower with indices losing more than 1% apiece

ISTANBUL 

US stocks closed lower Wednesday with indices each losing more than 1%.

The Dow fell 365 points, or 1.1%, to finish at 32,875. The S&P 500 trimmed 46 points, or 1.2%, to 3,783.

The Nasdaq fell almost 140 points, or 1.35%, to end the session at 10,213.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.4% to 22.17. The 10-year US Treasury yield increased 0.6% to 3.883%.

The dollar index rose 0.3% to 104.52, while the euro retreated 0.3% to $1.0609 against the greenback.

Precious metals were down with gold falling 0.5% to $1,804 per ounce and silver plummeting 2.3% to $23.50.

Crude oil prices were in negative territory. Global benchmark Brent crude was down 1.2% to $83.65 per barrel. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was around $78.65 — down 1.1%.
