US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman to retire: Blinken

NEW YORK

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will retire from her post this summer, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Friday.

Blinken expressed gratitude to Sherman for her service to the State Department and the American people.

“Wendy broke barriers as our first female Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and our first female Deputy Secretary of State,” Blinken said.

“Her remarkable career – which spans more than three decades, three Presidents, and five Secretaries of State – addressed some of the toughest foreign policy challenges of our time.”

Blinken did not say who will replace Sherman.
