UN special rapporteur condemns Israeli attack targeting Hamas officials in Doha

BRUSSELS

UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism Professor Ben Saul has condemned Tuesday’s Israeli strike targeting Hamas leadership in the Qatari capital Doha, saying it violates the fundamental prohibition on the use of force under international law.

“I condemn Israel’s military attack on Qatari territory, which violates the fundamental prohibition on the use of force under international law,” he wrote on the US social media company X.

Israel launched the attack on Hamas in the Qatari capital, saying it conducted a “precise strike targeting the senior leadership” of the Palestinian group. The premier’s office said the attack was a “wholly independent Israeli operation.”

Qatar condemned the “cowardly” attack, saying the strike targeted residential buildings that housed members of Hamas’s political bureau.
