UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted on Sunday an urgent need for increased funding to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine as winter approaches.

In a post on X, Guterres said the UN, alongside its partners, has delivered “lifesaving aid” to over 6.2 million people in Ukraine this year.

However, he warned that currently “less than half of the 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan is funded.”

“I urge donors to help us pursue our vital work on the ground,” Guterres said, emphasizing the critical nature of continued support as the harsh winter months loom.

The call for action comes amid growing concerns over the impact of the ongoing conflict on the population in Ukraine, where Russia continues its “special military operation” since February 2022.
