UK’s annual inflation rate at lowest level since September 2021

ISTANBUL

Annual inflation in the UK fell to 3.2% in March, marking the rate’s lowest reading since September 2021, official figures showed on Wednesday.

Down from 3.4% in February, the country’s Office for National Statistics said the easing was the result of consumer prices rising by just 0.6% on the month, versus 0.8% in the same period last year.

The greatest downward contribution to the monthly change in consumer prices came from food, while the largest upward contribution came from motor fuels, it noted.

“Core CPI (excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco) rose by 4.2% in the 12 months to March 2024, down from 4.5% in February,” it said.
