Ukraine on Tuesday drafted new military service rules to align with NATO standards, aiming to create a clearer and fairer career system for its armed forces.
The proposed changes would apply in peacetime, special periods, and wartime, ensuring a structured approach to military service, according to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
The reform introduced a promotion system based on performance and competition, allowing soldiers to advance their careers through merit.
It also includes measures to enhance skills through training and transfers while setting clear time limits for each rank. A transparent evaluation process is also planned to ensure fairness in career progression.
The Cabinet has approved the draft and sent it to the president for final approval.
Officials say the reform aims to reward competence and leadership, “ultimately strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities.”
