UK unemployment increases to 4.8%

The unemployment rate in the UK was at 4.8% in the period of June-August, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced on Tuesday.

The unemployment rate was at 4.7% in the May-to-June period and 4.1% in the same quarter last year, the ONS figures showed.

Around 1.7 million people were unemployed in the country as of the end of August.

The economic inactivity rate was estimated at 21% in June to August, the ONS said.

Meanwhile, estimates for payrolled employees in the UK fell by 93,000, or 0.3%, year-on-year in August, but increased by 10,000 from the previous month.
