Türkiye’s electricity production increased by around 8.8% in January 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, the latest data from the country’s energy watchdog showed on Thursday.
Total electricity production rose to around 28.54 million megawatt-hours (MWh) in January 2024, Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report for January 2024.
The country produced electricity from several sources: 29.2% from hydroelectricity, 21.8% from imported coal, 14% from wind, 13.2% from natural gas and 12.3% from lignite.
Geothermal, biomass, hard coal, solar power, asphaltite, and fuel oil generated the remaining share.
Electricity consumption in January 2024 also increased to around 22.75 million MWh, marking a 7% rise compared to the same month the previous year.
Installed electricity capacity rose by around 1.25% to 96,405 megawatts in January 2024, relative to January 2023.
Natural gas power plants comprised 26.2% of electricity installed capacity, while hydropower and wind plants accounted for 24.5% and 12.2%, respectively.
Imported coal, lignite, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, solar power, hard coal, asphaltite, fuel oil, naphtha, LNG and diesel also contributed to the installed capacity.
