Türkiye’s licensed electricity generation decreased 8.4% in July from a year earlier to 30.2 million megawatt-hours, data from the country’s energy watchdog showed.
Hydropower was the largest source of licensed electricity generation, accounting for 30% of total output, Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report.
Imported coal accounted for 21.6%, followed by wind at 13.6%, lignite at 12.6%, natural gas at 11.5% and solar at 3.9%.
Geothermal, biomass, hard coal, asphaltite and fuel oil accounted for the remaining generation.
– Electricity consumption rises faster than generation
Electricity consumption increased 1.3% year-on-year to around 27.6 million megawatt-hours in July.
The increase in consumption was slightly faster than the growth in electricity generation, pointing to stronger demand across the power system.
Türkiye’s licensed electricity generation capacity rose 3.2% year-on-year to 101,029 megawatts (MW) in July.
Natural gas power plants accounted for the largest share of licensed installed capacity at 24.4%.
Reservoir hydropower plants followed with 23.6%, while wind accounted for 14.9%, imported coal for 10.4% and lignite for 10.1%.
Run-of-river hydropower, solar, biomass, geothermal, hard coal, asphaltite and fuel oil plants made up the remaining capacity.
The data showed that Türkiye’s electricity system continues to expand while hydropower and imported coal remain major sources of generation and natural gas remains the largest source of installed thermal capacity.
